So old and So new

My week has been very exciting. I had a meeting with a lovely woman who writes for Real Homes Magazine and is also an expert on the Antiques Roadshow. We were there to discuss a project for the summer, The Vintage at Goodwod Festival. We had arranged to meet in a coffee shop at London’s newest shopping mall, ‘Westfield Shopping Centre’ in Shepherds Bush.
I arrived an hour early to compose myself and used the time to have a look around this grandiosity in all its glory. I found it quite ironic that we would rendezvous at such an ultra-modern, fresh, clean place to discuss vintage fashion and recycling. I was, albeit briefly, sucked up into the vacuum of retail therapy and impulsive buying. I ogled at handbags and wowed at coats, items that I would have almost certainly regretted later. Thankfully, I walked away with my head held high and my bank balance intact. Sometimes it is a good thing to have never learnt your credit card pin.
This is the inaugural year of the Vintage at Goodwood Festival. It is a celebration of music and fashion in post World War Two Britain, running for 3 days from the August 13th – 15th. It is a collaboration of Geraldine and Wayne Hemingway and Lord March. There will be live music, fashion, food and clothes stalls, workshops and loads of great activities to get involved in. I will be there, doing a talk and running some recycling workshops, as well as hopefully making some book sales. You can find out more at http://www.vintageatgoodwood.com
