About Selena Francis-Bryden

I love clothes. I love furniture. I love art. I love to combine them to create new and unique pieces. Are they original? I am not sure. I do try not to follow fashions and trends, but sometimes the ideas do leak in from the ether. It is only natural.
I rarely buy anything new.  I have an aversion to spending money on things that I think that (maybe) I can do myself.

I grew up in  North West London and spent my adolescence in and around Portobello Rd.  I still love it now.

I am an author of a new book  ‘DIY Fashion- Customize and Personalize’  and a fashion, furniture and interior designer/customiser. Although, I have had no formal training in any of these fields.  I am probably seen as an amateur. But, I do believe in the method of practice over theory and, I have had a lot of practice.

Please read my blog, and consider it a helping hand, not a bible of any sort or hard and fast rules to live by. Opinions are our own and alone we decide.

Peace

    Hi Selena

just want to say, I bought your book DIY Fashion a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back. I have minimal sewing experience and thought of myself as not very creative. Well… Not any more you have given me such inspiration, the possibilities are endless.

Thanks heaps for a wonderful and inspiring book.

    Dear selena
I came accross of your works when i was making a research on Portobello Market. I learned that you grew in the market, made you way up to fashion and design. I found your stories very remarkable and fits into the project I am currently doing.

Currently I am doing an oral history project on Portobello Market, trying to collect the history of this amusing market through the narration of the people who work and live there.

I chose Portobello Market becuse it is very colourful, multicultural, a place for recycling, a place for green living.

I would love to include your stories in my project. I would apprecite if you allow me to interview you and capture your stories and heard to energise the new generation through our museum exhibitions.

If you are interested in doing the interview or if you want to know more about the project and what I do please contact me through my email or my telephone on 020 7814 5765.

thank you in advance in anticipation for your coooperation

    Yours sincerely

    Hi Selina,

My name is Jaya and I work for a charity called Body & Soul. We support children, young people and adults living with or closely affected by HIV.

I work for the the Teenage part of the charity and we have just started running a series of workshops on a Thursday evening on fashion. We would absolutely love it if you would consider coming in on one of the Thursdays to help run a workshop with the teenagers around the idea of recycling & reusing old clothes. If this isn’t possible even just to be able to discuss ideas etc would be wonderful!

I realise this is a very brief message but please send me an email or give me a call and we discuss it in detail!

    Many Thanks

    Hi Selena,
I live on kingsgate road and was upset to see that funky junction is no longer open. Have you moved somewhere else? Where can I find you?

It take `faith – the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’, which is a quite a powerful thing to be able to express yourself through clothes / cloth – inspirational, hope to get a copy of your book, nice meeting you, G & all at `639′ today….my fav is the shirt dress, that was in the poster, Thanks for sharing and doing so much to help others, it’s not going unnoticed, bless you sj

    Hi Selena,
Your work looks amazing! A collegue mentioned your blog and I think you may have done some work for Body & Soul in the past. I run the Youth service for 13-19 year olds and I was wondering if you would be interested in running some sessions for our group? Do let me know if you would like to get involved. I know the young poeple I work with would love to get involved in recycling and upcycling.

    Thanks,
    Anny
